The blog world, @techmeme and twitter verse are all attention based economies

if you want to "win" you need to get popular and doing things that bring you attention and keep you in the internet public eye

When @robertscoble does things like say how twitter is better than USGS because they beat them by three minutes thats what he is doing

he is perpetuating his "internet wealth" by drawing attention to himself with preposterous statements

he understands how to give really great quotes so reporters like him

when he was at microsoft he was interesting now not so much

So as long as he keeps the attention momentum going he holds his authority status

the problem is every time one of you subscribes to him it's like giving the internet village idiot a bigger microphone

because he just amplifies what he sees without checking he is vulnerable to being hoaxed

he'll jump at the opportunity to perpetuate his attention based wealth making sure no one else does whether it's right or wrong
